AN ECOLOGY OF ARCHITECTURAL KNOWLEDGE

Where the majority of our unit’s practices took place physically, as opposed to digitally - the school’s decision to reduce show space from an entire room, to a wall (about 3x2.5m) was a substantial restraint.

In order to show as much handmade work as possible, we created a steel armature that would allow work to be layered on top of each other - projecting from the wall. This layering allowed us to make meaningful relationships between projects based on the Isle of Portland; an ecology of architectural knowledge. Such a layering also dissuaded passive viewing - some works could only be seen by moving around and peeking through others.
